Adam Farra obtains substantial recoveries for clients through litigation.
Prosecuting claims worth millions and sometimes billions of dollars in cases involving novel legal theories and intricate facts, Adam has represented publicly traded companies, municipalities, state attorneys general, institutional investors, whistleblowers, and creditors’ committees in an array of plaintiff-side litigation. He founded Farra & Wang PLLC after working at one of the top corporate defense firms in the world, one of the top plaintiff-side law firms in the country, and a leading strategic dispute resolution boutique in Washington, D.C.
In cases spanning the areas of antitrust, corporate governance, products liability, racketeering, and securities law, Adam has relied on his creativity and his collaborative approach with experts and co-counsel to obtain results for his clients.
After law school, Adam clerked for Judge Andre M. Davis of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, Judge Peter J. Messitte of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, and Judge Kathryn Grill Graeff of the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland.
Adam is an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland School of Law, where he teaches Antitrust Law and Sexuality and the Law. He also serves on the board of directors of FreeState Justice, the leading LGBT+ civil rights and advocacy organization in Maryland. Adam lives in Baltimore.
Adam’s past successes include:
Critical appellate victory against major government contractor. Adam represented the plaintiff in a suit alleging that a global development and consulting firm was reckless in its management of the plaintiff’s safety and security in a government-funded program, causing the plaintiff’s imprisonment and torture in Iran for nearly four years. After the trial court threw out the plaintiff’s suit, Adam persuaded a unanimous appeals court to reverse the trial court and reinstate the suit in full. See Zakka v. Palladium Int’l, LLC, 298 A.3d 319 (D.C. 2023).
Eight-figure settlement against auditor arising out of a global Ponzi scheme. Adam represented a class of institutional investors in an investment fraud suit against a major accounting firm arising out of the notorious Ponzi scheme perpetrated by Thomas Petters. The case settled for $27.5 million, a rare victory for investors prosecuting claims against audit firms. See Tradex Global Master Fund SPC Ltd. et al. v. Lancelot Investment Management, L.L.C. et al., Case No. 10-CH-13264 (Ill. Cir. Ct. 2018).
Precedent-setting appellate victories in constitutional litigation. As court-appointed lead counsel, Adam represented an insulin-dependent federal inmate who alleged that federal prison officials denied him diabetes treatment and unjustifiably locked him away in segregated housing, violating the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment. After the trial court threw the plaintiff’s suit out before it went to trial, Adam persuaded a unanimous federal appeals court to reverse the trial court, reinstate the suit, and the case was ordered to go to trial. See Scinto v. Stansberry, 841 F.3d 219 (4th Cir. 2016). In another suit, and again as court-appointed lead counsel, Adam persuaded a federal appeals court to reverse a trial court’s decision to throw out a federal inmate’s civil rights lawsuit. The appeal involved complex federal jurisdiction issues, and the case made new precedent in the Fourth Circuit. See Fontanez v. O’Brien, 807 F.3d 84 (4th Cir. 2015).
