The Baltimore Banner covered the firm’s work in Mayor and City Council of Baltimore v. The Agora Companies, LLC et al., our client’s consumer protection suit against the Baltimore-based network of publishing companies. The city alleges that Agora presents itself as a publisher of health, finance and retirement newsletters but operates as an internet marketing and supplements business that targets older consumers. Ads funnel readers into long video pitches, the complaint says, and buyers are then flooded with affiliate emails selling expensive “inner circle” memberships. One severely disabled customer was charged more than 60 times over two years, took out home loans to pay, and had spent over $30,000 by his death. The city seeks penalties of up to $1,000 a day for each violation. The firm represents Baltimore as co-counsel.
