Milwaukee Tool Sued Over Alleged Chinese Forced Labor in Supply Chain A former prisoner says he was forced to make work gloves bearing the logo of the tool company.

The Wall Street Journal covered the firm’s work in Xu Lun v. Milwaukee Electric Tool Corp., our client’s lawsuit against Milwaukee Tool and its Hong Kong-based parent, Techtronic Industries. Xu, a former Chinese prisoner suing under a pseudonym because he fears for his safety, alleges that in 2022, after being jailed for his activism, he was forced to make Milwaukee Tool-branded work gloves at Chishan Prison in Hunan province. The complaint alleges prisoners worked up to 13 hours a day for about $1.41 a month, facing beatings and electric shock if they refused. Xu also alleges that a supplier the U.S. had barred over forced-labor concerns routed Milwaukee Tool’s orders to the prison. Times Wang told the Journal that companies should not exploit cheap Chinese labor and then “feign shock” at problems in their supply chains.
